Evaluation Based on Completeness of Vision and Ability to Execute

London on 28 June 2010

Interoute, owner operator of Europe’s largest next generation network, today announced it has been positioned by Gartner, Inc. in the “Visionaries” quadrant of the Pan European Network Service Providers report. The Gartner Magic Quadrant prepared in March analyzes the positioning of suppliers of pan-European network solutions for voice and data. The report includes analysis of 15 providers across Europe. Gartner refers to the enormous competition in the market for providers of pan-European network services and highlights the fact that the “economic downturn has not caused a ’flight to safety’ as in past downturns, but a ’flight to value’ with companies “seeking out good deals even if they come from less-well-known providers”. Moreover “the Pan-European network service provider market remains crowded. Network reach is gradually diminishing as a differentiator, and service portfolio and quality are increasing in importance”.

The scope of enterprise networking has expanded in Europe, according to Gartner and more enterprises require connectivity with Central and Eastern Europe, which is a challenge for providers who considered their networks already as complete once they covered Western European markets. Gartner analysts point out that “despite the increased use of partnerships and network-to-network interconnections to improve coverage, the ownership of the infrastructure remains a key differentiator for telecommunications providers, allowing them to offer more attractive prices, continuity and stronger Service Level Agreements (SLAs).” Moreover, “with managed services so popular in Europe, they have become a major focus of differentiation, with a huge array of services on offer. These range from application acceleration and performance management, LAN and wireless LAN, extending out to the network edge, while hosted services from unified communications to infrastructure utility services live in the provider’s cloud.

According to the report, the operators included in the “visionaries” quadrant of the Magic Quadrant “have a strong understanding of the direction of the market and their position in it. They typically have a strong road map regarding new network service offerings. However, their delivery capabilities will be more limited, or their ability to execute on their vision may be constrained by financial or operational limitations. One of the reasons behind its ongoing competitiveness is that Interoute is the owner of Europe’s largest pan European network which it uses to deliver its enterprise services. This is a network of over 55,000 kilometres with a capacity to deliver 1000 million GB per minute, covering practically all of Europe and connecting with Africa, The United States and Dubai.
