Interoute, owner operator of Europe’s largest cloud services platform has announced that Deutsche Post’s new smartphone messenger app, SIMSme, is relying on Interoute Virtual Data Centre Berlin for its underlying cloud infrastructure. Since the launch of its Messenger app Deutsche Post has seen the number of people using the app steadily growing. thanks to the elastic nature of Interoute Virtual Data Center it is quickly scale to meet the rising demand for the SIMSme app. Interoute hosts the app in its German Virtual Data Center, which is based on a highly secure physical infrastructure in Interoute’s Berlin data Centre.

Interoute Virtual Data Centre (VDC) provides the cloud infrastructure for SIMSme and guarantees smooth operation, regardless of how many people use the app at the same time. Invisible to the end user, this underlying platform is nevertheless crucial for the performance of the app. To meet the large number of new users who signed up to use the app, Interoute was able to quickly scale up the computing infrastructure it provides Deutsche Post, adding 30 times the initial computing power provisioned to meet the rising demand.

The ability to control which geographic Virtual Data Centre zone or zones are used to host a user’s data ensures the SIMSme app data stays within German national borders, secure in Interoute’s Berlin Data Centre. This along with the ISO 20000 and ISO 27001 certifications the Data Centre holds were important reasons why Deutsche Post chose Interoute’s Cloud platform. Ensuring the security of the app data is a central premise of SIMSme, as the users of the app are guaranteed complete control over their personal information. To ensure this level of security the messenger app is secured with end-to-end encryption, which has been tested and approved by TÜV IT. In addition, the app has a special feature that allows the user to setup and trigger the automatic self-destruction of particularly confidential messages after a few seconds.

Marco Hauprich, Senior Vice President of Mobile & New Media at Deutsche Post commented, “The German Post has stood for over 500 years for the secure and confidential transport of messages. This now applies to popular instant messages from smartphone to smartphone. We provide the world’s best data protection in accordance with the strict German laws, without imposing additional expenses on the customer. SIMSme is free of charge and as we are not using this opportunity to fund the service through advertisements like other messenger app services, it’s also free from advertisements”.

Jan Louwes, Executive Vice President for Enterprise Sales and Marketing at Interoute commented “Messenger services are among the most popular and widely used smartphone applications in the world. The rapid growth in uptake of the Deutsche Post SIMSme messenger app shows how important this app is for smartphone users in Germany.
