DE-CIX Madrid Internet Exchange expands to Interoute’s Data Centre
Extending to Interoute’s data centre strengthens the development of a national and international traffic hub
Madrid, July 1st 2016 – Interoute, owner and operator of one the greatest networks in Europe and the biggest global cloud service digital platform, announces today that DE-CIX, the world’s leading Internet exchange operator, chooses Interoute’s data centre in Madrid as additional site for its Madrid Internet Exchange Point.
DE-CIX Madrid is a carrier- and data-center-neutral Internet Exchange, or IXP, which provides IP interconnection (“peering”) for the entire Internet ecosystem, which includes hosting companies, content delivery networks and providers of broadband Internet access. DE-CIX Madrid is geographically the best place of choice for ISPs from Spain and Portugal and for West African traffic coming to Madrid via Lisbon including global content network operators who need neutral and reliable interconnection services.
Interoute’s data centre is the second enabled site of DE-CIX Madrid. Herewith DE-CIX Madrid increases the attractiveness of the exchange by bringing more networks to the exchange.
The increasing traffic volume and bandwidth consumption combined with the relentless emergence of new applications requires the deployment of Internet exchange points at locations that are as close to the end-users as possible. This shortens the distance between networks and therefore improves networks performance and quality of service. Peering at IXPs is essential for the end-users Internet experience and networking security.
Diego Matas, General Manager of Interoute Iberia, explains: “We are proud to be working very closely with a company as innovative as DE-CIX, and their choice confirms the quality and neutrality, already certified by leading international bodies, of our Madrid data centre. Their choice enables us to extend to every interested company the possibility of exchanging traffic, thus allowing their end users to enjoy a higher-quality Internet”.
”Adding Interoute’s data centre to our Madrid exchange will greatly improve the Internet user experience as more networks are able to join our platform and exchange traffic locally,” adds Harald A. Summa, DE-CIX’s CEO. “We are also looking forward to having Interoute’s extensive network connected to DE-CIX Madrid.”
