Paris, Jnauary 9, 2024. EDP Renewables, a leading global producer of renewable energy, has signed an agreement for the acquisition of a solar portfolio of over 42 MWp to be deployed in the coming years.

Following a competitive process, EDP Renewables and the sellers reached an agreement regarding the acquisition and continued development of this portfolio of projects in Nouvelle Aquitaine.

After the first commissioning of a solar power plant for EDPR in France last September, this acquisition demonstrates the acceleration of its photovoltaic energy development strategy. This strategic choice aligns with the government’s objectives for the rapid deployment of solar projects to achieve emission reduction goals by 2035 and carbon neutrality by 2050.

The acquired portfolio of projects is distributed across four distinct sites. It will strengthen the position of the Nouvelle Aquitaine region in its ability to produce reliable and cost-effective energy in support of the energy transition. Additionally, three of the projects in this portfolio involve agri-photovoltaic (agri-PV) technology. This technology blends photovoltaics with efficient protection for crops, livestock, and breeding areas. Using its solar modules, the company can capture solar energy and convert it into electricity, simultaneously providing roofing for agricultural spaces to shield them from hail, rain, or sun. In this field, EDPR is currently developing the largest connected agri-PV park with agricultural use in Germany.

“We are pleased to kick off another important year with this news that reinforces our strategic position in France, where the acquisition market is highly competitive and margins are slim. It also demonstrates the ability of our company to competitively position itself and adapt to the expectations of sellers,” said Etienne Thomassin, General Manager of EDPR in France.

Present in the country for over 15 years, EDP Renewables owns or manages an installed capacity of over 600 MW in operation. Additionally, in 2023, the company commenced the construction of its first photovoltaic project in the hexagon, in collaboration with Kronos Solar.
